Marien van Os

Marien. Riding since 2008, based in the Netherlands. I put serious road miles on the Cannondale Synapse (21,000+ km), chase singletrack on the Scalpel, and made some of my best memories abroad on the Trigger — TransPortugal, Joberg2c in South Africa, Singletrack 6 in BC. On Zwift and FulGaz when it rains. Currently plotting a move into gravel. I'm the founder of WatchMyBike — I hope you'll find it as useful as I do myself.

2024 Light Carbon LCROX-D

IndoorSynced with Strava
1,824 km|11 parts|€2,417.31
Dedicated indoor training setup built around a Light Carbon LCROX-D carbon frame, purchased second-hand on Marktplaats. The frame weighs just 1.2 kg and serves as a purpose-built platform for virtual riding on Zwift and FulGaz. The drivetrain runs a Shimano GRX FC-RX600 crankset (also sourced on Marktplaats) with a Shimano Cues CN-LG500 chain, mated to a Zwift Cog for direct-drive simplicity. The bottom bracket is a Cema PressFit BB86. The bars are wrapped in Ciclovation Seitex Chameleon tape for a bit of flair in an otherwise utilitarian setup. The heart of the system is a Wahoo Kickr Move smart trainer paired with a Wahoo Kickr Climb front-wheel riser, delivering realistic gradient simulation and natural ride feel. The pain cave is completed with a LifeLine Turbo Trainer Table, Wahoo floor mat, and a Honeywell HT900E fan to keep things cool when the watts go up.

2021 Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 3

MountainSynced with Strava
3,042 km|27 parts|€4,510.63
2021 Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 3, purchased second-hand via Buycycle from Denmark. A full-suspension XC race bike built around the Lefty Ocho fork and Fox Float DPS Performance Elite rear shock — stiff and efficient under power, yet remarkably plush when the trail gets rough. Since acquisition, the bike has been significantly upgraded. The stock wheels were replaced with 9th Wave Yarrow carbon rims laced to DT Swiss 240 hubs, sourced via Marktplaats. The cockpit was overhauled with a OneUp Rise handlebar and OneUp stem, paired with a RockShox Reverb AXS 175mm dropper post controlled via a SRAM AXS Pod Rocker. Suspension lockout is managed through a RockShox Twistloc 3P remote grip. The drivetrain runs a full Shimano XT M8100 12-speed setup with a Cannondale SpideRing chainring, and the tires were recently updated to a Schwalbe Racing Ray / Racing Ralph combination on Schwalbe Clik tubeless valves. No major international trips yet, but that's on the horizon. Original manufacture date: 26 January 2021.

2016 Cannondale Synapse Disc Ultegra

RoadSynced with Strava
21,925 km|27 parts|€5,252.48
2016 Cannondale Synapse Disc Ultegra — the most-ridden bike in the garage with over 21,000 km on the clock. Purchased new in June 2016, back when hydraulic disc brakes on a road bike still raised eyebrows. Built on a BallisTec Carbon frame with Cannondale's SAVE PLUS fork, it remains as comfortable on long days as it was on day one. The original Shimano Ultegra 6800 2x11 groupset is still going strong, paired with a Cannondale HollowGram Si crankset and SpideRing chainrings. Braking is handled by Shimano R685 hydraulic calipers with J03A resin pads. The biggest transformation came with the upgrade to Vision SC 40 Disc carbon wheels, which gave the bike a noticeably sharper feel. Power data is provided by Garmin Rally RS200 dual-sided pedals, picked up on Marktplaats. The tires were recently switched to Pirelli Cinturato VELO TLR 28mm running tubeless with Dynamic Barkeeper Pro sealant, and the cockpit is wrapped in Lizard Skins DSP V2 bar tape. The Rondje IJsselmeer remains the standout ride on this bike, but it has racked up hundreds of rides since. Still the first bike off the wall for any serious road outing.

My Cannondale Trigger from 2013—the bike that's seen the world with me. From the dusty trails of TransPortugal to the challenging stages of Joberg2c in South Africa, and the breathtaking descents of Singletrack 6 in British Columbia, this bike has been there for every pedal stroke. These trips defined my riding journey.

This is my main commuter bike, which I won after shooting the picture of the year (2010) for AT5, Amsterdam's local news broadcaster. I use it daily for my work commute and rides around the city. I don't bother tracking every ride—that would be overkill.

My first road bike which I bought in 2009, I sold it but still regret it since I could have used it when I started riding indoors.

My first real MTB, a Cube Team from 2008. Made some memorable trips with this one. Mountain biking in the Netherlands was still in its infancy back then, as was my own riding. A lot has changed since those early days.
