Quick answer: In 2026, an AI bike mechanic connected to your tracked gear data can answer "should I replace my chain?" from your actual kilometres, list what's due across every bike, record a service in one sentence, and set recurring alerts — from an in-app chat or from Claude/ChatGPT via MCP. Use It From Claude or ChatGPT

You don't have to use my chat. This is how I add parts now. Almost every purchase, in a shop or online, ends with a receipt in my inbox. So I ask Claude to check my email for the latest bike purchase, add it to WatchMy.bike, and install it on the bike if it's already fitted. It pulls the details from the receipt and creates the component. I never open a form and never copy anything across. When I first set up my garage I did the same in bulk: I let Claude search my mailbox for every bike-related receipt it could find and add them one by one.

Know Where It Stops

An honest AI mechanic post needs this section, so here it is:

  1. It has no hands. Safety-critical work — brake bleeds, carbon torque specs, steerer bolts — still needs a torque wrench and either your hands or a shop's. The assistant tells you when; it cannot do how.

  3. Unconnected, it guesses. A language model with no access to your data will still answer fluently — that's the hallucination risk in its natural habitat. If an assistant quotes "your" mileage without a data connection, it made it up.
